World’s first CSC CO2 module

olcim ready-mix concrete plant in Mönchengladbach becomes sustainability pioneer with certification.

After Holcim Germany was the first concrete producer worldwide to have its ready-mix concrete plants in Kirchheim unter Teck and Stuttgart-Neckarhafen certified with the newly introduced R-module by CSC in September 2020, another premiere now follows: the Holcim ready-mix concrete plant in Mönchengladbach-Hardt was awarded the CSC CO2 module (3 stars). The certificate, available from January 2022, has been issued after an independent audit by Kiwa GmbH.

The CSC CO2-module is a supplementary certificate for concrete plants to the main CSC certificate. The Holcim site in the German Lower Rhine region achieved gold status. The three stars of the additional module mean that the manufactured concrete is produced with a certified 50% CO2 reduction compared to the reference value (more information on the reference value).

As a founding member of the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC), Holcim is aware of its responsibility for sustainable business: all of the Group’s cement plants, nine aggregates production sites and 22 ready-mix concrete plants, as well as the mobile concrete truck, have already received a CSC certificate.

« The entire construction industry has to change, » says Michael Scharpf, Head of Sustainable Construction at Holcim Germany. « We are of course very pleased to be the first plant worldwide to be awarded this certificate. »

« The Mönchengladbach plant is just the beginning, » says Marc Holberg, Head of Ready-Mix Concrete at Holcim Germany, « and we will continue to push sustainable construction with CSC certificates and further innovations in the coming months and years. »
